                    [Title] => Life's cheap thrills and the choices we make
                    [Summary] =>

Life is colorful, isn’t it? Watching the city grow, with widening skylines, fresh roads and new spots to explore, it seems like things can’t help but become interestingly better. However, I’m also noticing that these changes come at a price. To keep up with the new scene and social networking sites, there’s a subtle compulsion to augment one’s lifestyle, often self-imposed and peer-driven than anything else.

Though planning uses more of our logic than emotion, mapping out a person’s style somewhat employs a combination of both. Personal styling influences largely depend on my mood (hence the emotion kicking in) — something I’ve often mentioned to my Style Manila readers — but it’s only natural to assume that there is a sizable dose of planning involved in each styling activity.

As we age, our concern for our skin heightens. With every glimpse of our reflection in the mirror, we examine and note every possible change we see. Our skin woes are magnified beyond measure simply because we are aware that it’s something we can never reverse. We pore over pots and tubes of products with the hope of ridding ourselves of the fine lines, age spots and wrinkles. Some even resort to subjecting themselves under the knife and needle if only to borrow time and accommodate the fantasy of a youthful exterior. But not all are equipped with pockets deep enough for them to get their skin stretched and lifted or that tempting shot at a collagen boost.

The light, composition, photographer’s vision plus miscellany elements and circumstances will cause sundry effects on the final photograph. The subject has little control, only that of carriage and confidence. Considering the increasing popularity of sartorial photos, a greater number of individuals are seeing the need to consider the camera when choosing their outfit for the day. I even recall my mum saying that the reason she opted to wear a certain color was largely due to it rendering well in photos. Then again, my observations may have been slightly influenced by a photo-crazed holiday hangover.

One of the things I’ve learned over the years is that style is not something you can easily teach another person. Though it’s true that we can share the fundamentals of styling, learning may very well be rudimentary most of the time. I believe that it has to come from within. Style stems out of one’s personality and it’s fueled by countless inspirations. Else, outcome will look forced and grossly calculated. We wouldn’t really want that now, would we?

So, rather than expend my energy on sharing the how-to’s of styling, let me simply share a couple of things that are continuing sources of style inspiration. These are things that give me ideas on what to buy next. They help me maximize what I have in my wardrobe selection and aid in the mix and match combinations.

Roughly around a minor percentage of the general public, which is presumably composed of the local stylish population, can pull off wearing any random pair of sunglasses (out of the variety that number in the hundreds) available in the market and still maintain style credibility. But, for the rest of us, we can dare, fumble and learn yet still find ourselves lost in the search for the perfect sun accessory.

The question that must be asked is: Is it really necessary? Practical reasons include protection against damage caused by the sun’s UV rays or discomfort from the brightness of sunlight. Eye protection is a reason that’s solid enough to support the search. Yes, there are medical experts that do advise us on the importance of wearing them.
