[Title] => Continuing a legacy of giving
[Summary] => Once the driving force of an organization is gone, keeping the momentum is often a colossal task for those left behind to carry on the organization’s work.

While this is the case for the members of the Alay Kapwa Foundation, the foundation still carries on and works to fulfill the mission left behind by Sister Mary Christine Tan.

The Alay Kapwa Foundation does its work where many have given up: Helping the poor break the binds of the grinding poverty that shackles them and blocks their way to a comfortable life.

WE heard the commander-in-chief President Estrada say on radio yesterday that he had issued the order for our armed forces to go after rebels who have been wreaking havoc in Mindanao and making a mockery of the peace process.

We are 100 percent behind the President.

Our armed forces must not be held back any longer. These are critical days, days that need a leader who has brains, who can will those brains into political power, and crack that power like a lion-tamer's whip. Simply put, we don't have that leader. And that's why the nation is going into what looks like a tailspin. What is probably even worse is the political opposition is fragmented. It yields us no alternative to the present leadership. The shadows never seem to recede, they keep chasing and catching up with President Joseph Estrada. But this latest shadow is unique. We all know the President's intimate involvement with quite a number of Tans -- Lucio Tan and Dante Tan -- to name only two. This other Tan is unusual, a rare bird. She is Sr. Christine Tan, a name that not even the berdugos of the Marcos dictatorship could touch, tame, threaten or terrify. The letter of Sister Christine Tan, RGS, which came out in major newspapers on March 5, created no little discomfort among readers. It was a revealing letter which should have come out in the front page, but which had not. Before I continue, I must say that Sister Christine is one of the most respected and credible members of the religious community, and a fighter for human rights since the dictatorship.
