Global Steel Philippines Inc. (GSPI) the country’s largest steel manufacturer, said an increase in steel tariff will help develop the local industry and lessen dependence on imported steel.


"It is indeed ironic that imports continue to flood the local market on one hand, while Global Steel, which manufactures competitively priced, world-class steel products, is forced to export 70 percent of its production to its overseas customers," GSPI managing director Lalit Sehgal said in a statement.

Global Steel Philippines (SPV-AMC) Inc. announced yesterday that it  is shipping over 16,000 metric tons of cold rolled coils (CRC) and hot rolled coils (HRC) to Brazil for the first time.


According to Lalit K. Sehgal, Global Steel managing director, some 9,000 metric tons of CRC and 7,000 metric tons of HRC are currently being loaded on  MV Sea Brilliance for immediate shipment to Brazil .

                    [Summary] => Global Steel Philippines announced yesterday that its hot rolled coil (HRC) and cold rolled coil (CRC) lines are now fully operational.


Global Steel corporate head Sangram Mohanty said the steel firm is prioritizing CRC production in response to local demand. "Production is focused on CRC lines in view of domestic market requirements," Mohanty said.


He assured though that "the HRC line has been commissioned and its production capacity has already been established internally."
