[Title] => The path of the pilgrim, part 1
[Summary] => Since I read Jose Rizal's “Noli Me Tangere” in high school, I had always wanted to go to Obando, Bulacan and see the ritual dance that Maria Clara's parents performed to ask for a child from God with the intercession of saints.

[Summary] => The Obando orational (fertility) dance has a few characteristics that set it apart in the pantheon of Philippine fiestas. The chief one being that it is not dedicated to one or two saints, but three.

[Title] => Obandos prayer dance
[Summary] => Yesterday, May 17, marked the start of the three-day feast of the town of Obando, Bulacan and, sad to say, even the Department of Tourism seems totally unaware that it was once one of our greatest local tourist attractions. There has been very little effort to revive this great heritage. In his Noli Me Tangere, for instance, Rizal wrote about how Doña Pia gave birth to Maria Clara after she danced on the feast of San Pascual in the shrine of Obando. The authorities are talking or encouraging local tourism, but they seem to have no knowledge of our touristic traditions.
