[Title] => Cabinet body sets review of lower petrochem tariff
[Summary] => The Cabinet-level Tariff and Related Matters (CTRM) Committee will go ahead and meet tomorrow, to review an earlier CTRM decision lowering the tariff on 11 petrochemical products.
This was disclosed to The STAR by Trade and Industry Secretary Peter B. Favila even after Budget Secretary Romulo Neri had nixed the need for another review.
"I know Romys position, but there is nothing wrong with revisiting the matter since we were not involved in the earlier deliberation," Favila said.

[Title] => Plastic makers challenge petrochem firms to prove their losses
[Summary] => The Philippine Plastic Industry Association (PPIA) dared yesterday the three petrochemical firms to present their audited financial statements to prove that they are losing money and, thus, deserve tariff protection.
Alfred Chan, PPIA executive secretary, said that the three petrochemical companies may be losing money because of their interest payments and over-investment in their productive capacity.
"If the petrochemical firms are given tariff protection, the government will be creating another cartel," Chan warned.
