[Title] => Mobile TV update
[Summary] =>
This month I have taken notice of numerous technology headlines pertaining to mobile TV. One online news header I came across bannered "MobiTV passed two million subscribers!" while another splashed "Ericsson offers $1.4 billion for IPTV solutions developer Tandberg Television!" No doubt that these are significant tech news but for consumers it’s really about the content and experience when the topic of mobile TV comes up.

A Happy New Year to all! Im actually glad the holiday season is over; all that abuse of food, wine and revelry was just getting too decadent. [Title] => Free mobile phones
[Summary] =>
A lot of our business development managers based in various parts of the world have started to trek home for their Christmas holidays. I recently chatted with my San Francisco colleague and learned that he was able to attend the Web 2.0 conference last month. This is just the premier event of, for and about the leading figures and companies driving innovation in the Internet economy. One can get a lead on what business models are working, whats next on the horizon, and how all this will affect your own business.

[Title] => Mobile security
[Summary] =>
I have not had a virus infect my laptop for years; in fact, I have forgotten they had ever existed. I credit this to the advances made in Internet security software and my extreme paranoia prodding me to automatically delete e-mails with foreign addresses and strange-sounding subjects. Oh, I failed to mention, it would help if you update your antivirus files daily, too. My only recent memory of a virus threat was exactly a year ago when the CommWarrior mobile virus tried to infect my Nokia series 60 smartphone via MMS and simultaneously my laptop via Bluetooth.

[Title] => TechnoNegosyo
[Summary] => By the time this story comes out in my column, the TechnoNegosyo fair conceptualized by the Philippine Center for Entrepreneurship (PCE) would have just concluded. Nevertheless, I feel such a close affinity toward the goals of such a program that I am compelled to write about it. You see both our companies Bidshot Wireless Services and Chikka.com were born out of the same realities that TechnoNegosyo wanted to present to the general public.

[Title] => Mobile music
[Summary] =>
The use of MP3 players is just so prevalent among the masses these days that I cant help but notice the increasing number of consumers strolling in the malls or plying the pedestrian lanes with the all-too-familiar cords dangling from their ears. As this lifestyle becomes the norm, handset manufacturers have wasted no time in deploying mobile phones capable of playing music files. Great, they have freed up more space in my pockets!

[Title] => World Cup kicks off mobile TV
[Summary] => The World Cup in Germany commenced over the weekend with the opening ceremonies viewed by almost 1.5 billion people globally, making it the most viewed sporting event in the planet. Just to share some other interesting trivia, the last World Cup in 2002 produced a unique audience of over three billion people with 1.1 billion watching the finals alone. Wow, that is an amazing number that translates to half of the worlds population. It, indeed, sounds like the most ideal playing ground for any new product.

[Summary] => Hello Garci! Its that famous recording of last year which made numerous news headlines nationwide, almost toppled a President and even became a very hot ringtone. Such was a blatant example of invasion of privacy which you thought could only happen in the Philippines. Guess again. In the news lately are similar types of eavesdropping cases being dragged in the press. In one article I read privacy advocates in the US are suing giant AT&T for being an accomplice to illegal domestic spying by the US government.

[Title] => 2006 predictions
[Summary] => Despite my many late nights of Christmas revelry and brain cells fried from all the alcoholic beverages Ive consumed, I boldly acknowledged my editors text message reminding me of my articles deadline. If not for the fact that this is one of my favorite topics of the year to be writing about, I would have probably just have kept my cellphones inbox full and claimed I did not even get his reminder. Tony, you know I would never do that to you, right?! In the spirit of the much anticipated New Year, I will provide my 2006 Top 5 predictions. Why five?

[Title] => Fixed-mobile convergence
[Summary] => Many years back, the talk about Voice over Internet Protocol or whats popularly known today as VoIP sent shivers down the spines of most telecom operators as they imagined their abundant earnings being eroded by this emerging technology. VoIP technology enables a consumer to place voice calls, whether domestic or international, utilizing the Internet rather than an operators network. In fact, if you have a DSL connection today, simply download Skype into your computer and you can speak to any party in the world with the clarity of a landline practically for free!
