Naval Forces Western Mindanao Combined (NAVFORWMCOM) chief Rear Admiral Emilio Marayag said Chinese Embassy First Secretary Wang Jun and Chinese police attaché Superintendent Liu Lujun arrived here Friday to conduct their own inquiry into the case.

ZAMBOANGA CITY – The Philippine Navy said yesterday that it detained 45 Chinese fishermen caught fishing illegally in Philippine waters and they face a $100,000 penalty if found guilty of violating Philippine fishing laws.


The men were arrested aboard three Chinese-registered boats intercepted by the Navy in the channel between Basilan island and the port of Zamboanga, Naval Forces Western Mindanao Combined (NAVFORWMCOM) chief Rear Admiral Emilio Marayag said.

ZAMBOANGA CITY – The military has launched a new command to improve its fighting capability against the Abu Sayyaf terrorists through greater coordination between naval forces and battle-tested Marines on the ground.


The new command – Naval Forces Western Mindanao Combined – comprises three Marine brigades and naval units operating in the Sulu seas. Rear Adm. Emelio Marayag Jr. commands the newly formed NFWMC.


With the creation of NFWMC, the military deactivated the Naval Forces Western Mindanao or NavFORWM.
