The Energy Regulatory Commission has renewed the Certificate of Compliance of Cebu Electric Cooperative Incorporated I for the operation of its three mini-hydroelectric power plants (MHEPP) for another five years.

(Veco) was granted a 25-year extension after its franchise expired last Monday.

The National Electrification Commission renewed Veco’s franchise on the condition that the power company must settle its dispute with shareholders.

In renewing Veco’s franchise, the Department of Energy, in a press statement, said it took into account the growing power deficit in the Cebu-Negros-Panay grid.

It also saw the need for Veco to provide sufficient power and reserve, the department added.

The power distribution giant has 16 applications for franchise renewal pending before the National Electrification Commission (NEC).
