[Title] => Band of baddicts
[Summary] =>
A few friends and readers who know me have been wondering about my recent conversion from couch potato to badminton addict, noting correctly that Ive rarely been known to do anything more strenuous than reaching for a cold beer (and, of course, lifting the bottle all evening). But they cant argue with some of the more obvious results; since I picked up a racket three months ago for the first time since high school, Ive lost 20 pounds (okay, make that 15 on my surf-and-turf-bingeing days).

[Title] => Piencenaves, Asuncion head romp of top bets
[Summary] => Ian Piencenaves romped away with an easy victory while Kennevic Asuncion scored an early walkover win as the top two seeds led the march of the fancied bets to the round of 32 in the mens singles event of the JVC Open Badminton Championships at Powersmash in Makati Monday.
Piencenaves, playing out of Philippine Army, made short work of Cornelio Dieta, 15-1, 15-1, to arrange a clash with Ryan Conde of UST, who fought back from a set down to complete an 11-15, 15-9, 15-13 victory over Jimson Dionisio.

[Title] => Badminton row not over; player returns shot
[Summary] => Jaime Junio, one of three players who were recently dropped from the Philippine badminton team, yesterday denied charges that he tried to sabotage the performance of his teammates during the Hong Kong Open tournament last November.
According to RP team head coach Butch Oreta, Junio was caught by the hotel surveillance camera pressing on the door buzzer of his teammates then running back to his own room from 2 to 4 in the morning, just a few hours before they were to see action.

[Title] => Shuttler hits coach; coach blasts back
[Summary] => A badminton player who was recently dropped from the national pool has questioned the Philippine Badminton Associations policy on selecting and dropping its players who receive monthly allowances from the Philippine Sports Commission.
Owen Lopez, a member of the national pool for the last six years, also questioned the ability of RP team head coach Butch Oreta who, he said, "failed" in the coaching course recently conducted by the Asian Badminton Confederation in Malaysia.
"The PBA just keeps it a secret," said Lopez.
