[Title] => Reds threaten to attack US troops participating in relief efforts
[Summary] => Communist rebels warned yesterday about 300 US troops expected to help deliver aid to the typhoon-battered provinces of Laguna and Quezon later this month not to venture into strongholds of the New People’s Army (NPA), saying they could face attacks.

This was a reversal of the rebels’ earlier position that they would not attack American troops helping in relief efforts.

The deployment of US forces from Feb. 21 to March 6 is part of annual military exercises aimed at promoting compatibility of US and Filipino troops for possible security contingencies.

Guingona said the MLSA should be submitted to the Senate for approval because it is not just an "administrative agreement."

"Do not thrust upon us the MLSA and pass it off as a simple, boring, administrative and accounting agreement supposedly beneficial to the nation," he told reporters.
