One of the nursing board examiners being investigated for the leakage of questions for the 2006 licensure examination has been arrested by police for alleged illegal recruitment.Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) chief Director Jesus Verzosa said Virginia Madeja was arrested at her house in Mahogany Subdivision, Bagumbayan, Taguig City at 8 p.m. last Thursday.


Verzosa said the arrest was made by virtue of a warrant of arrest for estafa and illegal recruitment issued by Manila Judge Guillermo Purganan last June 9, 2005.

After being slapped with a multimillion-peso civil case by Justice Secretary-on-leave Hernando Perez, embattled Manila Rep. Mark "MJ" Jimenez now faces arrest and detention.

This possibility developed after the Supreme Court (SC) junked yesterday a petition by Jimenez to nullify the votes of four justices who refused to grant him bail while his extradition case to the US remains pending at the Manila Regional Trial Court.

The Department of Justice (DOJ) asked the Supreme Court yesterday to cancel the P1-million bail granted by Manila Judge Guillermo Purganan for the provisional liberty of Jimenez, who is wanted by US authorities.

In its 24-page petition, signed by Undersecretary Merceditas Gutierrez and State Counsel Claro Flores, the DOJ maintained that neither the Philippine Extradition Law (Presidential Decree 1069) nor the RP-US Extradition Treaty provides bail for extraditees.
