Amid criticisms on the system reliability of the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP), the company has formed a special working group to study the proposed Leyte-Mindanao Interconnection Project (LMIP),   a ranking NGCP official said.

"We are trying to tap a pool of funds from various sources such as the Japanese government and Japanese private power companies, the Asian Development Bank and the World Bank," TransCo president and CEO Alan T. Ortiz said.

Ortiz said he had also approached Japanese power firms Kanematsu and J Power Systems Inc. on the feasibility of venturing into the LMIP.

"The LMIP is not part of our capex program. The economic managers believed that it should be left to the concessionaire (who will take over the Transco assets)," Ortiz said.
