[Title] => Security remains tight in Zambo City
[Summary] => ZAMBOANGA CITY Amid the spate of bombings in Sultan Kudarat and North Cotabato, security here was beefed up yesterday as Zamboangueños turned out in the streets for the celebration of the feast of La Virgen del Pilar, this southern port citys patroness.
Security will remain tight during the month-long Zamboanga Hermosa Festival with the explosions that jolted the city in October 2002, days before the bombing in Bali, Indonesia, still fresh in the minds of local folk.

The fiesta of Nuestra Señora del Pilar brought me to Zamboanga City. It was to witness the fashionable versions of the Barot saya or mascota held in Fort Pilars historic, beautiful ancient remains of the 16th century life.

[Title] => Threats from the same crazies who blasted off their hatred in Madrid
[Summary] => VALENCIA, Spain Here we are in Valencia, next to Barcelona, Spains most important ports. The rivalry between the Valencianos and the Catalans of Barcelona is traditional, intense and bitter. Barcelona thanks to Gaudi, Las Ramblas, and international hype gets all the publicity. This time, Valencia has scored a coup. The fabled "Americas Cup" race with the Cup now held by land-locked Switzerland will be held in Valencias splendid and wave-tossed Bay in the year 2007.

[Title] => After Bali, Zamboanga
[Summary] => Terrorists really seem to be concentrating on attacking places known for peace and tranquility. As we stated in our column last Thursday, Bali was the closest paradise-on-earth that we ever visited. Its closest equivalent in the Philippines is Zamboanga. And Zamboanga was the city that terrorists targeted that same Thursday. The irony is that Zamboanga was the place in Mindanao that had the ideal Christian-Muslim relations and the cult that linked them is the Virgen del Pilar, who is the patron saint of the Spanish fort in Zamboanga.

[Title] => Even militant groups defer to Peñafrancia feast
[Summary] => NAGA CITY The martial law anniversary was one occasion militant groups would not pass up. But they did here in deference to the Feast of Our Lady of Peñafrancia which culminated with the fluvial procession last Saturday.
Noli Terrado, a member of the Samahang Laban sa Detensyon at Para sa Amnestiya (SELDA), said militant groups opted not to stage any rallies to mark the declaration of martial law "because the people will not sympathize with us anyway."
"They are busy celebrating this Catholic occasion," he added.
