[Title] => Innocents’ Day and the new Herods of today
[Summary] => In a clear act of charity and mercy and to ensure that Christians all over the world would never forget so that innocent children wouldn’t die in vain, the Catholic Church always commemorates the day when the Holy Innocents were martyred.

[Title] => The Feast of the Holy Innocents
[Summary] => Yesterday was Holy Innocents Day, the feast of the children. When Herod learned about the birth of Christ, he ordered all children less than 2 years of age killed to make sure that Jesus did not survive. The Holy Innocents were the very first saints and they died not only for Christ, but in place of Christ. We have consistently been turned off by the way the Feast of the Holy Innocents is celebrated, and to us the important thing about any feast is that it be properly commemorated.

[Title] => Holy Innocents Day
[Summary] => If we go by popular English Yuletide songs, today is the third day of Christmas, known in English as Childermas, short for Mass of the Holy Innocents. Ironically enough, the song Twelve Days of Christmas makes no referral to the Holy Innocents. On the third day, the song is totally concerned with the number of gifts which a man sends to his true love and so Three French Hens are what become significant on the third day of Christmas.

[Title] => Today’s innocents are our streetchildren - ROSES AND THORNS By Alejandro R. Roces
[Summary] => During the Spanish period, the day used to be celebrated as Holy Innocents’ Day. It commemorated the Massacre of the Innocents, the slaughter of all the male children two years old and under when Jesus was born. It was done on the orders of Herod in order to kill the new-born baby who was destined to become "King of the Jews." They were actually the very first martyrs. They did not die for Christ, they died in place of Christ. It was originally believed that thousands were killed, but modern research revealed that it must have been less than a hundred.
