[Summary] => This will be a great weekend for volleyball in Cebu. If you are among those who are still very sorry that the volleyball event of the 23rd Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) would not be held here, then this is one way of quenching your thirst for action.
Today, the Cebu Volleyball Bench Open Championship will open at the University of San Carlos Gymnasium.
The event will open at 8 am and there are a total of 19 teams participating for the men and women's divisions.

[Summary] => Many questions about what good the Gov. Gwen Garcia Unity Volleyball (GUV) Cup can bring have been answered during a press conference early this week at the GA Grill.
One of the biggest questions has been "what good can it bring to the players?"
Since I have been part of the planning stage of this tournament, one of things that we anticipated would happen will be the discovery of new talents for the schools.
I actually did not feel that it might just happen immediately, but I am totally wrong.

[Title] => No smoking please
[Summary] => There was a very ugly sight inside the Cebu City Sports Center last Monday - two foreign-looking women smoking at the area near the pool.
Why was it an ugly sight? That is because smoking is not allowed inside the facility and so is taking alcoholic beverages and of course illegal drugs.
I could not help but call the attention of the two women about their misdeed, which in fairness to them, they also immediately abided.

[Summary] => It has been some time since I have seen a jam-packed Capitol Social Hall, but yesterday it was.
Athletes and officials participating in the Gov. Gwen Garcia Unity Volleyball (GUV) Cup packed the social hall for the general assembly that also included the drawing of lots for the game schedules and the turn over of equipment for training.
Gov. Gwen did not only look radiant, but pleasantly surprised when she walked into the social hall yesterday to speak to the players.

[Title] => The Good News
[Summary] => There have been so many good things happening in the sports scene recently that I hope would hog the headlines instead of the political and economic crisis or the tragedies happening around the world.
Unfortunately, the sports news has a specific section in the newspapers and would not be able to sugarcoat the reality we are facing.
I'd like to dwell on other equally important topics for this column, but I'd give it to the economic and political analysts for whatever I say will not do much good except maybe to my heart since I will be able to voice out my frustrations.
