[Title] => Debt swap proposal: For press release only
[Summary] => I am for debt relief. I have written so in this column. I have read books about it. I have talked to knowledgeable people about it. When Ate Glue spoke before the UN General Assembly about this proposal of Speaker Joe de V, that event should have been a proud moment for me too. But it wasnt. The nation might have even been embarrassed because our Great Leader picked up a proposal without doing enough due diligence.

[Title] => No Merry Christmas for embattled peso
[Summary] => There was no smile on BSP Governor Paeng Buenaventuras face when I caught up with him last Thursday at the Christmas party at Mythers. Noticing his worried and pensive demeanor, I decided to ask him the ultimate question early on. How come the peso isnt getting any better, a week before Christmas? Are the OFWs holding on to their dollars in the hope of getting even more pesos with every day of delay?

[Title] => Is Pardo dreaming of P45 to $1? - DEMAND AND SUPPLY by Boo Chanco
[Summary] => BSP Governor Paeng Buenaventura is saying the peso should recover soon to P48-$1. I guess that is possible in the short term, as in December, when the OFWs are cashing in their dollars for Christmas. But Finance Secretary Jose Pardo is making an even bolder pitch: The peso will make a strong comeback at P45-$1. In fact, Pardo said government will stick to its earlier budget assumption that the peso will average P44.50-$1 in 2001.

[Title] => Will politics retard high tech here?
[Summary] =>
On second thought, that's a stupid question. Of course politics, our brand of
politics will retard our ability to adopt high technology in information and
communication in this country. It already is.
