[Title] => Bacalao: Penance or indulgence?
[Summary] => Attendant to the deep Catholicism we’ve inherited from Spain’s more than three centuries of colonization is the practice of fasting and/or giving up certain types of luxuries as a form of penance during Lent, in particular abstaining from eating any type of meat.

[Summary] => The true-to-life crucifixions during Good Fridays here could be overshadowed by the renewed devotion to the miraculous “Apu Macalulu” of the Lord of Mercy Church in Barangay Lourdes Sur.

[Summary] =>
"Mommy, you're eating meat!" my son had admonished me last Friday. I smiled sheepishly. He had remembered the priest's reminder, given at the beginning of Lent, not to eat meat on Wednesdays and Fridays.

[Title] => An eclipse on the value of life?
[Summary] => The brutal killing of Bantay Dagat head, Elpidio Jojo de la Victoria, has shocked many Cebuanos. It was not the act itself that jolted them, after all, violence has been an almost daily occurrence in their midst. It was the victim himself, one of Cebu City's scintillating key officials whose quality of service has touched the lives of many people.

[Title] => Are you risen?
[Summary] => Every Christmas, we celebrate the birth of Christ our Savior. Many of us religiously take out from their boxes our little "Belens" and display them at the center of our homes. We freeze the scene. We eternalize the "Santo Niño" and even deck him with jewels and heavy, embroidered, suffocating gowns. We overwhelm him with our endless petitions in childlike, or is it childish fashion. After the season is over, we keep our "Belens" back in their places, until the following Christmas.
