Nanawagan kahapon ang United Nations (UN) sa mga bansang kasapi nito kabilang ang Pilipinas na tumulong sa pagpapadala ng peacekeepers sa Lebanon.


Ayon kay UN Sec. General Kofi Annan, may 49 French soldiers ang kauna-unahan pa lamang na tumulak patungo sa southern Lebanon mula sa 15,000 peacekeepers na ipinangako ng UN. Umaabot na sa 200 contingent ang ipinadala ng France.

Ang UN peacekeepers ay naatasang tumulong sa tropa ng Lebanon para magpatupad ng kaayusan sa nasabing lugar matapos ang matinding bakbakan sa pagitan ng Hezbollah at Israeli forces.
