The head of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) is urging the Philippines to consolidate its fiscal position if it wants to remain competitive in the region.


In an interview, ADB president Haruhiko Kuroda said the Philippines faces two major challenges in the face of growing calls for regional economic integration.


The first challenge is how to integrate and unite a country that is physically divided among 7,100 islands.

The lecture is the highlight activity of the Center, providing a forum for world-renowned leaders and experts from the government and private sectors to discuss contemporary issues of particular relevance to the banking and finance community.

According to Camdessus, post-war rebuilding will also be difficult and countries like the Philippines will have to cope with negative external elements on top of dealing with internal weaknesses in the local economy.
