[Title] => Gov't mulls frequent oil price changes
[Summary] =>
Government is looking at the possibility of implementing frequent fuel price
adjustments (upward or downward) to directly link domestic prices with those of
global markets.
In a press briefing, Energy Secretary Mario V. Tiaoqui said frequent price
adjustments would reflect the true situation of world crude prices under a
deregulated environment.
"That is a situation where we would like to be in," Tiaoqui stated.

[Title] => Shell reports P200-M loss in first 2 months
[Summary] =>
Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corp. (Pilipinas Shell) said that it lost more than
P200 million in the past two months as prices of imported crude oil continued
to move up without any relief in sight.
"We purchased crude at $24 per barrel but sold the same for something like
$22," Pilipinas Shell vice president Rey Gamboa said.
The Feb. 1 price hike, resulting in an average increase of P0.49 liter was
based on a crude price of $22 covering the price period of November 1999.

[Title] => Proposed oil exchange will be another Nasutra, says Petron chief
[Summary] =>
The proposed National Oil Exchange Corp. (NOEC) will become a government and
oil monopoly similar to the National Sugar Trading Corp. (Nasutra), according
to Jose A. Syjuco Jr., chairman and chief executive officer of Petron Corp.
Based on the proposal of Rep. Enrique Garcia, Syjuco said "the NOEC will be a
monopoly... and monopolies have not been known to assure consumers of
reasonable prices and efficient operations."
Syjuco recalled the days when Nasutra was the sole buyer of domestic sugar and
sole seller of Philippine sugar in the international market.
