CEBU, Philippines - At least P830 million was spent in 2008 by mining companies in Central Visayas to comply with requirements of Republic Act 7942 or the Philippine Mining Act of 2005, said the Mines and Geosciences Bureau of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources-7.

Lafayette’s managing director Andrew Mcllwain said in a statement that the company poured its first gold in the plant, with the next step to continue with the commissioning of the base metals plant toward the fourth quarter when it starts to produce copper and zinc concentrates.
