                    [Title] => First batch of OFWs from Kazakhstan arrives
                    [Summary] =>

The first batch of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in Tengiz, Kazakhstan arrived in the country yesterday, relieved that they have escaped the chaos said to be prevailing in the eastern European country.

The 11 mostly oil field workers recounted tales of marauding Kazakhs who, they said, harassed mostly Turkish and Romanians in Kazakh factories due to a feeling of resentment toward foreigners working their oil fields.

The OFWs came home via Emirates Airways Flight EK 332, which landed at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal I at around 4:25 p.m. [DatePublished] => 2006-11-09 00:00:00 [ColumnID] => 133272 [Focus] => 0 [AuthorID] => [AuthorName] => [SectionName] => Headlines [SectionUrl] => headlines [URL] => ) [1] => Array ( [ArticleID] => 214876 [Title] => 601,000 jobs created but still short of 2003 target [Summary] => The government has generated 601,000 local jobs for the first seven months of the year but fell short of the one million jobs President Arroyo pledged in her State of the Nation address last year.

But Labor Secretary Patricia Sto. Tomas remained optimistic that the Department of Labor and Employment would be able to meet the target before yearend.

"We have met about 62 percent of our target for the year and we have more than enough time to meet such target," Sto. Tomas told reporters.
