                    [Summary] => BAUANG, La Union — The murder case against La Union second district Rep. Tomas Dumpit Sr., together with eight others, including the lawmaker’s son, for the Jan. 12 killing of Bauang election registrar Felimon Asperin Jr., has been transferred to the Department of Justice (DOJ) as requested by Justice Secretary Raul Gonzales.


In a April 10 letter, Gonzales ordered local prosecutors handling the case to suspend the preliminary investigation and immediately transmit all the records to the DOJ.

In an order dated April 6, prosecutor Edilberta Casiano found "no ground to continue with the investigation" against Ares Mato, SPO1 Eduardo Banay, Tess Dumpit-Michelena, Clyde Crispino, and Rene Batoon, and directed the police to reply within five days from receipt of her order.

Superintendent Pedro Ubaldo, Bauang police chief, represented the task force in filing the case against Dumpit, his son Butch, a former military officer; Caba Vice Mayor Clyde Crispino and six other suspects with the provincial prosecutor’s office here.
