[Title] => Language mirrors national identity
[Summary] => Any language can be a powerful tool for national identity. At some point, for the month of August, we look forward to the celebration with all the preparations leading to it.

[Title] => A hidden gem called Antulang
[Summary] => An hour’s drive south of Dumaguete, through paved roads and rough terrain, flanked by placid sea and craggy peaks, past lush farmland and thorny bush, skirting fishing villages and upland communities – indeed, at the end of a long, winding road, awaits Antulang.

[Title] => Poetry for the holidays
[Summary] => A couple of fine poems appealed to me of late. Plus a scintillating essay on the craft of poetry. All were received by e-mail.
The first poem was sent by a good old buddy, film director Butch Perez, with whom I sometimes engage in cross-texting through certain cantos of thrilling NBA games we both happen to be watching on TV. The only other fellow I do that with is Dumaguetes Sawi Aquino, whose new book threatens to join bookstore shelves in time for Christmas.

[Title] => A trip to the Waldorf
[Summary] =>
No, I dont mean the swanky hotel, but hang on. Thanks to an invitation from our editor-in-chief Isaac Belmonte and his wife Isa (who had been my student in Diliman quite a few years ago), I sat in on a very interesting meeting the other Saturday a meeting that, for a pleasant change, had little to do with the crying concerns of the moment, but rather with the question of what to teach and how best to teach our high school students.
