SAN FERNANDO, La Union – Fearing that the cholera outbreak in the Ilocos region in 2004 might occur again, the regional office of the Department of Health (DOH) is now on alert for the possible occurrence of the water-borne disease because 2007 is its next epidemiological cycle.


Dr. Madeline Retuta, program manager of DOH’s Safe Water System, told The STAR that surveillance of water systems in Pangasinan, La Union and parts of Ilocos Sur and Ilocos Norte is now being undertaken to prevent the contamination of potable water.
