[Title] => The impeachment casket smells
[Summary] => The strife was long. It likely drained our resources. The conflict was highly emotional. It severely distracted us from our more productive concerns. Yes, the impeachment complaints lodged against Her Excellency, President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, pursued and defended with all the vigor our leaders could muster so blurred our reasons that we skirted with a constitutional crisis. We were so wearied a nation that we wanted, even in haste, to end the hostilities and close that chapter of our history, no matter what the outcome was.

[Title] => Truth commission
[Summary] => During these times of intense cynicism occasioned by almost total lack of confidence in existing institutions charged with upholding the truth and dispensing justice, the creation of another body with such a glamorous name as "Truth Commission" somehow revives hope and stimulates optimism. Undoubtedly, the formation of a commission composed of men and women of proven integrity and intellectual capacity is going to emit even a glint of the light at the end of the dark tunnel we are passing through right now.

[Title] => Let him cast the first stone
[Summary] => I am not the religious man that columnist Bobit Avila is and I do not read the bible as he does. So when Her Excellency, President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, in one of her combative statements, challenged the opposition with a biblical quote like "let him who is innocent cast the first stone" I thought I read Mr. Avila's write-up in an untimely Holy Week. I normally hear this line in the Christian celebration of Lent.

[Title] => Butz on a fourth option
[Summary] => A frenzy of pro- and anti-GMA activities is going on rallies and debates and media forums. The Bulong Pulungan sa Westin Philippine Plaza has been inviting resource persons to talk on current political issues. Tuesday, one of two speakers was Congress-man Agapito "Butz" Aquino, who said three solutions are being offered to settle the issue of what to do with the President: keep her where she is (status quo), impeachment, and resignation. He offered a fourth option, which, he said, had come to him at the heat of the moment in these tempestuous times.

[Title] => A deafening silence
[Summary] => Silence can be deafening.
There is the silence of apathy; the silence of a people who have become indifferent to a political system largely unresponsive to its needs. We have become a nation wracked with people-power fatigue, realizing that two (or three) highly visible manifestations of people power have not led to real reforms. Rather, they have only deepened the foothold of patronage politics and traditional politicians upon a nation sorely in need of hope and genuine change.

[Title] => The wonder of you
[Summary] => The wide interest in the tale of the tape of an alleged conversation between President GMA and Commission on Elections Commissioner Virgilio Garcillano is hardly surprising. At the core of the controversy is the authenticity of the electoral mandate of the President. Did she really win the 2004 presidential elections, or was her election procured through fraud with the cooperation of the Comelec?
