[Title] => Encounters with history
[Summary] => I had an unusual encounter with history last week, by way of two sorties to two different exhibits that turned out to have a bit more to do with each other than I might’ve initially thought.

[Title] => RP drug trade now P700 B a year
[Summary] =>
Peddling illegal drugs has become a lucrative trade in the country with its dealers earning a staggering P700 billion every year, tax-free.
Undersecretary Romeo Vera Cruz of the Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB) made the disclosure at the House of Representatives during the hearing into the so-called shabu tiangge (flea market) raided by the police in Pasig City last Feb. 10.

[Title] => Kidnapping was once unheard of in Cebu!
[Summary] => A couple of weeks ago, I was told by a friend about an ongoing kidnapping of a Cebuano businessman, but I hit the blank wall when I started asking questions. In fact, my friend appealed to me, asking me not even to write anything that could jeopardize the ongoing talks. Well now the cat is out of the bag and the kidnapped victim back safely with his family... we now know that there are very rich kidnappers out there who believe that crime after all does pay handsomely!

[Title] => The ROTC: Another Pinoy tragedy!
[Summary] => Two weeks ago, we wrote about the war being waged by the New People's Army (NPA) against the cellsites of Globe Telecom... well, yesterday, the Philippine Star's Nation page came up with another story that did not even make the headlines of another Globe Telecom cellsite being attacked by the NPA in Puerto Galera, Mindoro. Again we ask this very poignant question... why is it that the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) and its armed wing, the NPAs, have declared this war against Globe Telecom's cellsite, which to date, more than 30 Globe Telecom cellsites have already been attacked?

[Title] => Cine Europa: The films you almost failed to see
[Summary] => Lets face it. No matter how you try to slice the cake, film distribution and exhibition is a business. As such, commercial concerns are the priority. So is it any wonder that we get a steady diet of Hollywood blockbusters, juvenile comedies and shock/schlock thrillers? Star power rules and the name on the marquee also means boffo box office receipts (never mind if some of the films are downright embarrassments, given the pedigrees of the actors involved).
