[Title] => Getaruelas, Delposo rule 3rd CMTR
[Summary] => Leiszl Lumindas-Getaruelas succeeded in defending her crown even as unheralded Eugene Delposo of University of Southern Philippines-Foundation (USPF) won the men's title in the 3rd Cebu Mountain Trail Run the other day in Kalunasan.
Getaruelas managed to hang on and claimed back-to-back victories with a time of 39 minutes and one second.
Joery Ann Lee trailed in 40:37 while Merlita Arias settled third in 42:12.
In the men's division, Delposo surprised the tough field after zooming on top with a time of 32:41 clocking to win the title.

[Title] => Mountain Trail Run
[Summary] => After adjusting the schedule with other cycling and running events, the third edition of the much- awaited Cebu Mountain Trail Run finally unfolds on June 25 in Kalunasan near Guadalupe. The route will cover over 8 kilometers of trail mostly uphill and downhill. As in the past runners will have a break from the usual city streets, smog, traffic and heat. I'm again advising runners to enjoy the scenery, smell the trees, listen to the birds and just have fun.

[Title] => Marathon Deaths
[Summary] => A waiver in an entry form says that running in a marathon is a hazardous activity therefore a participant must have trained and examined by a medical doctor as physically fit. In other words running a long race is risky business. In the last February Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon, a 53 year-old Chinese runner named Tsang Kam-yin collapsed and later died in the hospital while another runner was in critical condition. Tsang had asthma according to reports.

[Title] => Another ailing Olympian
[Summary] => In a previous column, I wrote about Jimmy Sebastian who was once known as Southeast Asia's strongest man. However, after a series of heart attacks he is now bedridden and could hardly walk nor talk. While in Manila two weeks ago, I wanted to visit another good friend and "kababayan" who is also in the same predicament as Sebastian but my trips to the PBB house took a lot of my time. I'm talking about 1988 Seoul Olympian Leopoldo Serantes who is presently confined at the V. Luna General Hospital, suffering from lung abscess and pulmonary disease.

[Title] => Successful race
[Summary] => As I mentioned in an earlier column, The Freeman general manager Boy Mendoza and pretty marketing manager Tina Poblador, a Toni Gonzaga dead ringer (mas maganda lang si Tina) were apprehensive when I proposed a 10-kilometer race to mark The Freeman's 86th anniversary. I assured Boy and Tina that as long as I have the logistics, I could organize a race in a week's time. I even lost almost a week as I have to be in Manila to attend the Philippine Southeast Asian Games Organizing Committee (PHILSOC) meetings.
