[Title] => Here comes Cha-cha
[Summary] =>
Whether we like it or not, Charter change is on full throttle at the House of Representatives.
To no ones surprise, the House quickly got rid of the second effort to impeach President Arroyo. Some distraction is still being provided by the fight between Taguig-Pateros Rep. Allan Peter Cayetano and First Gentleman Mike Arroyo. We would prefer that lawmakers are instead distracted from Cha-cha by the proposed budget for 2007 and other pressing matters. But its clear that the full focus of the House majority is now on amending the Constitution.

[Title] => EDITORIAL Heavy workload
[Summary] =>
With the proposed P1.053-trillion national budget for 2006 in limbo, President Arroyo is seeking a supplemental budget of P40 billion. At the same time, Malacañang has submitted to Congress the budget proposal for 2007 amounting to P1.138 trillion. The proposed General Appropriations Act for this year is stuck in the bicameral conference committee, with senators insisting on a substantial cut.

[Title] => Editorial - Raising false hopes
[Summary] => The Marcos family has asked the Supreme Court to reverse its ruling on the $683 million held in escrow in the Philippine National Bank. The tribunal, however, rarely reverses a ruling especially on such a major case. In Switzerland, authorities have approved the release of the money to the Philippine government following the Supreme Courts landmark decision handed down last July 15.
