The rebels withdrew after the 45-minute firefight, taking hostage and killing one of the policemen, PO3 Nolasco Hadap. Another policeman, P03 Rudy Valeriano, was wounded and is now confined at the Bicol Regional Training and Teaching Hospital here.

Tarlac Vice Gov. Herminio Aquino, provincial chairman of the opposition Lakas-NUCD and one of the convenors of the "Resign Erap! Sigaw ng mga Tarlaqueño," urged anti-Estrada forces to do this as he described Tues-day’s mass actions in his province as a "great success."

Starting next week, Aquino said more anti-Estrada demonstrations will be held in Tarlac, home-province of former President Corazon Aquino, who, along with Jaime Cardinal Sin, is leading the oust-Estrada movement.
