[Title] => Not so lonely anymore
[Summary] => Time was when sportscasting was a very lonely profession. In all, roughly a handful of true, tested veterans populated the industry. In fact, during the 1960s when radio was king you usually heard the same voices over and over again, and that etched their distinct timbre in your memory. Willie Hernandez begat other giants like the late Joe Cantada and Pingooy Pengson, and so on. In fact, radio was considered a requirement for anyone entering sports television, at least until 1987.

[Title] => Limits
[Summary] => Saturday last week, the Philippines salvaged some honor at the fourth edition of the Southeast Asia Basketball Association junior mens tournament in Lucena, Quezon. The RP-Burlington Youth team crushed impetuous Singapore 99-53, after building leads of more than forty in the second half at the fabulous Quezon Convention Center, with Gov. Willie Enverga in attendance.
This writer was fortunate to have covered the final game with Noel Zarate and Vic Ycasiano through producer TeamSports, which barely covered its costs in its commitment to supporting the national team.

[Title] => Radios unsung heroes
[Summary] => Theres trouble brewing in the radio broadcast of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) games.
Last Aug. 6, broadcasters Barry Pascua and Boyet Sison refused to cover the first quarter of the Red Bull-FedEx game at the PhilSports Arena as an expression of protest for the much-delayed payment of their wages. Manila Broadcasting Co. (MBC), the radio franchise holder of the PBA games, reacted by putting the TV voices of Anthony Suntay and Paolo Trillo on the air.
