[Title] => Life in a castle
[Summary] => As you read this, I would have just returned from a 40-day residency at the Civitella Ranieri Center in Umbertide, Italy — still dizzy, no doubt, not just from the long plane ride via Doha, but also from nearly six weeks of immersion in the thickest of cultural brews: the company of a dozen artists, writers, and musicians in a castle in Italy’s medieval heartland.

[Title] => Northern exposure
[Summary] => I saved the Pangasinan leg from last week’s piece on our “Northern exposure” trip for another installment because I thought it merited its own report, given the two delightful architectural discoveries I mentioned.

[Title] => Illustrious company at Bellagio
[Summary] => Rarefied and remarkably stimulating has been the company Ive been enjoying at Rockefeller Foundations Bellagio Center. From my first day onwards, its been nothing less than dizzying cycles of striking up friendships and, sadly, bidding farewells to predecessors who had completed their four-week terms.
In any international company, of course Id hit it off instantly with a Scotsman. And this idyllic sojourn at Villa Serbelloni has not been an exception.

[Title] => Of Bellagio: Che bella, bellissima
[Summary] => What does one do for an encore after Bellagio? What will it take to get through imaginably severe withdrawal pangs once the sojourn is over? In the first place, how did one deserve such an idyllic period of beauty and tranquility?
Pardon the mundane rhetoric, but only such modest queries this side of incredulity may introduce eventual journal entries.

[Title] => Adverts for ourselves
[Summary] => Well, hoo-hah! This Manila-born-and-bred writer (at least until his mid-20s) has just entered the rolls of Manilas finest. Of honored artists, that is.
On Friday the 20th of June, not so humbly did we stand among the ranks of creative individuals chosen to receive the Patnubay ng Sining at Kalinangan awards as part of the serial activities celebrating the 432nd anniversary of the Noble and Ever Loyal City.
