The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) has designated the Lake Buhi Watershed in the Bicol region as a water quality management area (WQMA) in a bid to protect the water body that is home to the famous ‘sinarapan’, known as the world’s smallest commercially harvested fish.

Of the 15 rivers, five are in the metropolis and have failed the DENR’s standards for Class C water.
