                    [Summary] => Fugitive businessman Dante Tan allegedly paid A$220,000 for his Australian citizenship, Senate President Franklin Drilon said yesterday.


Quoting Australian lawmakers, Drilon said the money reportedly went to Karim Kirswani, an Australian of Lebanese origin who is a friend of Immigration Commissioner Phillip Ruddock, with whom he allegedly lobbied for Tan’s citizenship.


He said the Filipino businessman had also made a A$10,000 donation to Ruddock’s election campaign in October 2001.

                    [Summary] => The Department of Justice (DOJ) said yesterday it will seek the extradition of businessman Dante Tan, who managed to flee to Australia and acquire citizenship despite his involvement in a major insider trading case that contributed to the eventual resignation of President Joseph Estrada.


Australian Immigration Minister Philip Ruddock himself said during questioning by the Australian Parliament on June 3 that Tan was given Australian citizenship after he signed a declaration that he did not have any criminal convictions and that he was not facing any criminal charges.
