[Title] => Tales of two arrests
[Summary] => I had a good laugh last Monday when my former colleagues at Malacañang Palace called up to tell me that our very sweet, prim and proper friend, fellow reporter Mia Gonzalez was sought by policemen to be arrested on libel charges. The funny part of this whole thing was that these bumbling Manila policemen obviously thought they could earn brownie points for doing their job. The five policemen, who were not even in uniform, later claimed they were merely going to serve the warrant of arrest to Mia last Monday at the Palace Press Office.

[Title] => First Gentleman first
[Summary] =>
It was an exercise in futility for First Gentleman Jose Miguel Arroyo to go out of his way to Germany and spent so much of his money, time, and effort just to refute the accusations made by Pateros Rep. Alan Peter Cayetano. This was after the Opposition solon claimed that President Arroyos husband and family supposedly have stashed secret deposit accounts in a bank in Germany. As Cayetano himself admitted, he has nothing to support this allegation.

[Summary] => She did not quite advise her husband to go "pidal" or paddle his own canoe, as the text jokes say. But President Arroyo stressed yesterday she would not lift a finger to help First Gentleman Mike Arroyo out of his current woes involving allegations of money laundering.
"I am not going to intervene," the President said in a speech at the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) last night. "The Palace is not a legal refuge of the First Family. I am married to our country."

[Title] => Palace insists GMA not running
[Summary] => Malacañang defended yesterday as freedom of expression the statements of people who wish President Arroyo would reconsider her Dec. 30, 2002 vow not to join the 2004 presidential race, but insisted she will stick to her decision not to seek a full six-year term.
It is "clear that the President is very firm in her stand on this matter and this will remain unchanged," Presidential Spokesman Ignacio Bunye said.
