[Title] => Old Archers never die, shoot balding Eagles
[Summary] => After more than two decades, the old "Animo La Salle spirit" came into full force.

The La Salle Green Archers, behind the inspired play of Tonichi Yturri and Franz Pumaren, outplayed and outhustled the Ateneo Legends team, 79-70, before a wildly-cheering crowd in the Fil-Oil Flying V Ultimate Showdown at the Araneta Coliseum.

Ytturi, a role player during his prime, sizzled with 16 points and snared seven rebounds, anchoring La Salle’s blazing fourth quarter rampage, capped by Pumaren’s three-pointer in the final minute of the contest.

Then again, did they really have him, or was it part of some surreal pipe dream that seems to have enveloped the erstwhile Blue Eaglet/Green Archer’s career?

House lights were dimmed as spotlights picked out each of the sports teams competing in the UAAP, which opens its season on July 10.

Next to last, the Ateneo Legends team, composed of the school’s former basketball players, was introduced. Then came the current Blue Eagles, who would play the Legends, trotting out onto the fabled floor.

All except BJ Manalo.
