Southeast Asian (SEA) Games men’s singles champion Cecil Mamiit said the other day the outlook is bright for Philippine tennis and reiterated his commitment to lead the charge at the Asian Games in Doha late this year.


Mamiit, 30, recently sparked the country’s elevation to Group 2 in the Asia-Oceania Davis Cup after blanking Sri Lanka, Singapore, Vietnam, Saudi Arabia and Iran via identical 3-0 routs. Last year, the Philippines was demoted to Group 3 after losing to Korea and Lebanon.
