An example occurred in this column’s article entitled "February 1945" (Feb. 9). I was made to say that the Apostolic Delegate at that time was "an American Jesuit". I had said no such thing in my manuscript. What the printers had done was to telescope two separate lines, omitting the line in between. The correct text should read:

One of the happy events was the entry of the American troops into Manila in February 1945 to drive away the Japanese invaders. Speaking of it as a whole, that was a happy episode, although it was accompanied by terrible things, some of them tragic.
