                    [Summary] => New People’s Army (NPA) guerrillas have launched their own hunt for fugitive priest-killer Norberto Manero Jr., Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) founder Jose Maria Sison said yesterday.


Manero, who was sentenced to life in 1987 for the 1985 murder of Italian missionary Tullio Favali, is being sought by police after bolting the Sarangani provincial jail last month. 


"The Magtanggol Roque Command of the NPA has decided to track down and arrest Norberto Manero at the earliest opportunity," Sison said from his refuge in the Netherlands.

                    [Summary] => DAVAO – Fugitive priest-killer Norberto Manero Jr., whose numerous demands for turning himself in have been rejected by the government, is set to surrender within the next few days to Presidential Assistant for Mindanao Jesus Dureza.


"I have been in contact with Manero in the last few days, and he has signified his intention to surrender to me," Dureza said. "I just can’t say exactly when this will happen."


President Arroyo said yesterday she would not agree to any conditions for the surrender of the escaped convict.

Justice Secretary Hernando Perez told reporters yesterday Manero, who escaped from the Saranggani jail last week, has no right to set conditions for his surrender.


"The government cannot agree to the demands of an escaped convict," he said. "We are not going to recommend that any of his demands be considered and instead we shall act as we have already asked the police agencies to intensify the search for Mr. Manero."
