Former Batangas governor Antonio Leviste will have to present himself before Judge Elmo Alameda of the Makati Regional Trial Court next Wednesday to answer the homicide charges filed against him for the killing of his executive assistant last Jan. 12.


The court set Leviste’s arraignment on Jan. 24 at 9:00 a.m., 12 days after Rafael delas Alas was found dead in Leviste’s 9th Floor office at the LPL Tower along Legaspi Street, Legaspi Village, Makati.

Justice Secretary Raul Gonzalez said yesterday he believes that murder charges, not just homicide, should be filed against former Batangas governor Antonio Leviste who gunned down his long-time aide in Makati City last Jan. 12.


Gonzalez ordered the Makati City Prosecutor’s Office to further investigate the case and if evidence is found, to change the homicide charges that were initially filed against Leviste to murder.

Former Batangas governor Antonio Leviste was charged with homicide before the Makati City Prosecutor’s Office yesterday for the killing of a former aide, who was found dead in his office in Makati last Friday.


The 66-year-old Leviste underwent inquest yesterday at the Makati Medical Center, where he is confined.


Assistant City Prosecutor Henry Salazar conducted the proceedings to determine if there is probable cause to charge Leviste in court.

The homicide charges to be filed tomorrow against former Batangas Gov. J. Antonio Leviste may be upgraded to murder if evidence warrants, the Makati City police said yesterday.


Police are set to file homicide charges against Leviste, who shot dead his aide in his Makati City office the other day and claimed self-defense.


Makati City police chief Superintendent Gilbert Cruz said they will file the case tomorrow before the City Prosecutor’s Office, even if Leviste’s confinement at the Makati Medical Center (MMC) is prolonged.
