Drivers and operators of public utility jeepneys plying the Mandaue City-Cebu City routes yesterday staged a rally to renew their call to the Cebu City Council to abide by the court order releasing their impounded vehicles. 


Some 30 placard-bearing drivers and operators who are members of Mandaue City Transport Operators Association and Nagkahiusang Drayber sa Sugbu staged a picket in front of City Savings Bank building where the council was holding a session. NADSU claims membership of over 90 percent of Mandaue City jeepney drivers.

City fire marshal Esmael Codilla and assistant regional fire marshal for operations Anderson Comar have been ordered to stop issuing statements about the latter's earlier claims that Codilla allegedly handled haphazardly the fire that razed a building at the Capitol grounds Tuesday.


Director Victoriano Remedio, the regional fire marshal, issued the verbal directive to them during a meeting with fire chiefs Wednesday to prevent the exploitation of the issue and harming the reputation of Codilla and Comar.

"Dili man kinahanglan. Pwede na siya dili mo-testify (There's no need at all. He may not testify)," said defense counsel Honorato Hermosisima, Jr. on Wapille who refused to be presented as the defense witness. Hermosisima said they respected their client's refusal as it is his right.
