Jett Pangan: A rocking reader

THE READING CLUB - THE READING CLUB By Girlie Rodis -
Jett Pangan, The Dawn’s lead vocalist and chief lyricist, and wife Elizabeth are extra cheery this Father’s Day because it coincides with the couple’s 12th wedding anniversary.

Jett and Elizabeth are parents to Erika, 10, and Rafael, 7. "Maski sobrang makukulit ang mga kids ko, I always look forward to seeing them at the end of the day. They are little angels who comfort me," says Jett. "This Father’s Day certainly calls for a double celebration!"

Well, make that a triple party since Jett and The Dawn are also celebrating 20 years in rock music. The band has produced 11 albums since 1986, and spawned rock hits such as Enveloped IdeasSalamat, Iisang Bangka, and Tulad ng Dati.

Jett, together with his band mates Francis Reyes, Junboy Leonor and new addition Buddy Zabala, are currently filming and recording the soundtrack of their 20th-anniversary biopic titled Tulad ng Dati to be shown as one of the competing films at the 2nd Cinemalaya Festival on July17 to 23 at the CCP. Mike Sandejas wrote and directed the film.

Apart from Jett’s musical duties with The Dawn, the front man also performs in major theatrical productions in Manila. Recent additions to his stage credentials were his performances in Actor’s Actors Inc.’s critically acclaimed production of Broadway favorite Once on this Island and Atlantis Productions’ staging of Disney’s musical version of Beauty and the Beast. Other stage credits include Broadway’s Baby the Musical, Urinetown, Dreamgirls, The Rocky Horror Show, and Tick, Tick, Boom!

On local television, Jett has been sharing hosting jobs with Myx VJs as Myx Live’s regular host. He also recently dubbed the voice of the Bozanian character Draco, in Hero Channel’s Voltes V Evolution. Jett may seem like a busy bee, but he definitely finds quality family time, and picks up books to read for additional knowledge and pleasure. His top five books of all time are a combination of fiction, fantasy, and, of course, rock music.
Jett Pangan’s Book List
1. THE DA VINCI CODE by Dan Brown By way of a suspense novel, I came across a lot of factoids about the Vatican and Renaissance art that I normally wouldn’t have the patience for and the interest to look up.

2. THE HOBBIT by J.R.R. Tolkien
I don’t know what kind of hallucinogenic Tolkien took while writing this book, but the man certainly created a vivid and fantastic world that has blown away generations of readers.

3. AUTOMO-TIVE ATROCI-TIES by Eric Peters
I like cars despite the ridiculous cost of fuel, and this book is hilarious especially for automobile enthusiasts like me. Peters takes a comical look at vehicles that have failed miserably in the reliability, performance, efficiency and cosmetic departments.

4. THE DIRT: MOTLEY CRUE by Neil Strauss
The subtitle reads Confessions of the World’s Most Notorious Rock Band. And boy, what admissions they are! Decadent, disgusting, revolting, volatile, and beautiful. This book is my most favorite on the list.

5. U2 SHOW by Diana Scrimgeour
From the title alone, enough said.
