Its World Childrens Day at McDo
November 20, 2005 | 12:00am
At a celebration held in McDonalds Greenbelt last Nov. 15, it was announced that its charity arm Ronald McDonald House of Charities (RMHC) won the Agora Award for Outstanding Achievement in Advocacy Marketing. The Agora Awards is the benchmark for world-class excellence in the Philippine marketing industry. As the longest-running recognition body for marketing, the Agora Awards bestows distinction on Filipino companies and entrepreneurs who manifest and promote excellent marketing practices.
"To be recognized for our work in RMHC in time for the 2005 World Childrens Day (Nov. 20) is a tremendous and serendipitous honor. This means a lot not only to McDonalds but also to our young beneficiaries the children under RMHCs care. It motivates us to work harder for the rights of Filipino children to education, shelter and happiness," said Kenneth Yang, RMHC president and managing director of Golden Arches Development Corporation.
To help improve the lives of underprivileged children, RMHC has embarked on several key projects. These include the Bright Minds Read (BMR), a partnership program with the Department of Education-NCR that aims to develop and improve "Beginning Reading" skills among public school children; Bahay Bulilit, a day care center for children of low income families in different communities/areas in the country; and Gawad Kalinga, a house-building project for the less fortunate.
"We established the local chapter of the RMHC in 1996 to stay true to our philosophy of giving back to the communities in which we operate. The charity is focused on children, as RMHCs mission is help uplift their lives," added Yang.
The Agora Award for McDonalds comes at an opportune time. World Childrens Day (WCD), a global campaign observed in McDonalds restaurants in more than 100 countries to raise funds and awareness for Ronald McDonald House Charities and childrens causes everywhere, will be celebrated today. Now in its third year, RMHCs World Childrens Day continues to gain strong support from corporations, various entertainment and sports celebrities and royalty in other parts of the world. In the Philippines, Paolo Bediones is RHMCs celebrity advocate.
McDonalds Philippines will celebrate World Childrens Day (WCD) with a Fun Day. This will happen simultaneously in 256 McDonalds stores nationwide. McDonalds will also donate P5 for every purchase of a Happy Meal to RMHC to support its various programs and bring joy to less fortunate children across the country.
