A passion for excellence

- Menchie V. Osial -
Globe’s performance should reassure its subscribers of its ability to overcome challenges. The company’s innovations and its emphasis on customer service have earned for it a quality that is superior in the market. This is the competitive edge that the men and women in Globe nurture with zealousness, discipline and pride.

Offering a serviceable line of products and services is not good enough, today’s complex demands call for carefully-customized solutions. For Globe Telecom it is through innovative and relevant technologies that this can be achieved. Any innovation or breakthrough Globe finds for the growing need to stay in touch is a sign of its commitment to its clients.

From being a data and voice provider, Globe has blossomed into a full-service telecommunications company that has engineered a gamut of products and services. Years back, Globe had foreseen the shift of telephony technology and demand to GSM (Global System for Mobile communications). To date, Globe boasts of its cellular phone service, fixed telephone lines, Internet access, Inter-exchange carrier services, and other domestic data communications services.

Buoyed by a 75-year pioneering spirit, Globe has not ceased to strive for excellence. The formidable synergy of three business giants – namely, Ayala Corporation, Singapore Telecom International and Deutsche Telekom – has carried Globe to even greater heights. Thus, Globe has earned the reputation for being an innovator – it was first to introduce text messaging which remains a craze, first also in MMS (Multi-media Messaging Service) and video messaging, and first in international prepaid roaming.

Globe continues to adapt, stay in touch with the outside world, and sense development and nascent change before it sneaks up. It is in the light of this challenge that Globe continues to innovate. It is because of Globe’s ability to be one with the times that the entry of well-known products and services such as the Globe Handyphone cellular phone service, Globelines wireline service, myGlobe e-services, GlobeQUEST data services, and of course Touch Mobile prepaid wireless service have become a reality.

Globe’s sterling performance did not escape the watchful eyes of various independent observers in Philippines and the Asian region that have ranked it among the top telecom companies in the country. Thus, it has received some of the highest ratings from publications like FinanceAsia, Far Eastern Economic Review and Asia Money. It has also received awards from institutions, Anvil Awards and Gold Quill Awards.

By any measure, 2002 was one of Globe Telecom’s best years and Globe Telecom remains by far the Philippines’ best managed company as the Far Eastern Economic Review ranked the telephone giant fourth in leadership, third in quality of products and services, second as the most innovative firm in the Philippines and customer needs and fourth in being the company that others try to emulate.

Globe was also recognized as one of the Best Managed Companies in the Philippines by FinanceAsia magazine, ranking the company as the second best managed company in the Philippines. Noteworthy is that Globe SVP for finance Delfin Gonzales was cited as the Best Chief Financial Officer for the second straight year.

Forbes
magazine recognized Globe as one of the "Best Under a Billion 200 Companies for 2002." Out of the 20,000 companies outside the US with less than $1 billion in revenue, only two companies from the Philippines were cited on this list.

Globe Telecom proved to be one of the "winingest" in the 38th Anvil Awards of the Public Relations Society of the Philippines (PRSP) held at the Hotel Intercon last February. Globe received four Anvil Awards of Merit for its magazine The Globe Spectrum, its Globe Telecom Academic Achievement Awards (GTAAA) program, its SPEAK regional ad campaign and its 2002 Cebu Press Freedom Week event.

In addition to these awards, Globe brought home an Award of Merit for its Habitat for Humanity Campaign, Sandaan Mo, Siyang Daan Ko (Share A Hundred, Build More Homes) in the 2003 Gold Quill Awards of the International Association of Business Communicators Philippines (IABC/Philippines).

Globe Telecom was also the overall winner of the 2002 PANA Values Award, given by the Philippine Association of National Advertisers. Globe’s winning ad was its television commercial "Katrina" which depicted a young girl’s relationship with her parents, and was cited as having touched the hearts of television viewers.

Globe also received a Hall of Fame Award from the Consumers Union of the Philippines, as a five-time recipient of its Outstanding Cellular Service Company award. The company was also given the 2002 Excellence Awards for Quality as the Most Outstanding Cellular Network Provider.

"We are very happy that Globe Telecom is recognized as one of the best companies not only in the Philippines but also in Asia," says Globe Telecom president and CEO Gerardo Ablaza Jr. "This is very encouraging as it reflects the strong performance of our company."
