Avon, the global beauty company and the largest corporate supporter in the fight against breast cancer, continues to ensure that women get a fighting chance against the disease that has afflicted thousands worldwide. Through its Kiss Goodbye to Breast Cancer (KGBC) campaign, Avon has helped create awareness and has raised funds for the cause. Avon KGBCs early campaigns have resulted in the establishment of the PGH Breast Care Center. The Center now stands as a symbol of hope for the indigent Filipino women who visit it.
This year, Avon continues to champion the breast cancer cause via a 3K non-competitive Fun Walk called "Avon Walk Around the World for Breast Cancer". The first of three events happened last Sunday in Cebu City, and will have repeats on October 16 in Davao City and October 23 in Manila.
The Fun Walk is open to men and women of all ages and fitness levels. Total funds raised from all three eventstargeted at a minimum of P500,000will be matched by the Avon Foundation for the benefit of the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center, Davao Medical Center and the PGH Breast Care Center. In addition to the Fun Walk, there will be a sale of special edition KGBC "Celebrate" lipsticks for the entire month of October. For every lipstick sold, P5 will go to breast care clinic beneficiaries.
In support of Avons advocacy, well known personalities have spoken out and stepped out for the breast cancer cause.
"Being one of the leading causes of death among women, we can no longer ignore breast cancer and must empower ourselves with knowledge on how to prevent it," says newscaster Pinky Webb. Joining the fight against breast cancer are other women of substance such as newscasters Ces Drilon, environmental advocate Chin-Chin Gutierrez, and beauty queen Carlene Aguilar.
The fight against breast cancer is not a womans battle alone. As Masculados member and model Omar Principe states, "Women take an important role in our society. In return, we must take care of them by supporting this campaign." Actor-turned-politician Isko Moreno has also pledged his support for the breast cancer campaign.
Several social organizations and business groups have also committed to rally behind Avons advocacy. Among them are Globe Girlfriends, the Philippine College of Surgeons and the Polytechnic University of the Philippines.
Avon Walk is also made possible by the support of media partner GMA Network Inc., global sponsor Novartis Oncology, minor sponsors Equitable PCI Bank, Bine Philippines, AstraZeneca, Progrizive, Inc., Sepphil Inc. and Jollibee and partner Philippine Cancer Society, Inc.
Interested participants may visit the Avon Davao branch at C.M. Recto Blvd., Davao City. Metro Manila participants may call Faith Aranton or Olen Jalandoni of Avon Marketing PR at 8642670-73 for registration details and other inquiries or visit Avon Boutiques in SM Megamall and Glorietta.
