TNT keeps line open for Mikey

MANILA, Philippines — What used to be a long shot now seemed closer to reality as Mikey Williams admitted his openness to donning a TNT uniform in the PBA once again.

In a rare appearance, Williams served as spectator in TNT’s Commissioner’s Cup duel against Ginebra on Friday night at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig – sparking conversations on the real score between him and his former squad.

And Williams did not hesitate to disclose the possibility of his TNT return, given “some things that still need to be addressed” down the road.

“It’s kind of heartfelt. I want to be out there with them. But there’s some things that still need to be addressed. I definitely miss them, but it’s love seeing them as well,” said Williams, who’s in the country to reinforce Strong Group Athletics in the 34th Dubai International Basketball Championship starting next week.

“I just wish I could compete with them. Only time will tell when that’s possible. I always want to be with TNT. No question. But only time will tell, like I said.”

Williams, a two-time Finals MVP for TNT, also admitted longing to play at home once again.

“For the last couple of years, I definitely made this a home. Everybody showed so much love to me in the process. I just miss being out there with my team. Everybody that I built a rapport and a brotherhood with,” he added after dapping it up with former teammates led by Kelly Williams after the game.

For now, the 6-foot-2 spitfire scorer did not comment on any contract development after he and TNT had a negotiation standoff in 2023 that led to their separation.

TNT still holds the signing and playing rights to the 33-year-old Filipino-American standout but as far as coach Chot Reyes is concerned, the two parties are yet to sit down to revive any talks.

“Since then, we’ve had radio silence for perhaps, I don’t know, one year now or at least six months already,” he cleared. “He knows my number. He knows how to get in touch with me. I always say I’m just a message or a phone call away.”
