BI nabs 400 foreigners in Parañaque scam hub
MANILA, Philippines — Close to 400 foreign nationals were apprehended during a raid on an alleged scam hub in Parañaque on Wednesday, according to the Bureau of Immigration.
The BI uncovered the illegal aliens working for a company similar to a Philippine offshore gaming operator or POGO in Barangay Tambo.
BI Intelligence Division chief Fortunato Manahan Jr. said the suspects were believed to be engaged in illegal activities, including online scams, targeting victims abroad.
The BI’s Intelligence Division, Fugitive Search Unit and Anti-Terrorist Group have been monitoring the activities of “these people for some time,” Manahan said.
The company’s operations violated Philippine immigration laws and posed security risks to the public, he said.
The foreigners underwent booking procedures. They will remain in BI custody while awaiting deportation proceedings.
The BI said it is coordinating with other government agencies to expedite the process and ensure that those found guilty of violating Philippine laws are held accountable.
“The directive of President Marcos is clear. POGO workers who insist on staying in the country and violating our laws will be arrested and deported,” Immigration Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado said.
He said the raid is part of the BI’s efforts to combat illegal activities and ensure that foreign nationals comply with Philippine laws.
“We will not tolerate any activities that endanger the safety and welfare of the public,” Viado said.
