MANILA, Philippines — A Japanese fugitive facing fraud charges has been arrested in Binondo, Manila.

Yokota Tetsuya, 39, allegedly stole 2.75 million yen or $17,000 through voice phishing.

Based on reports, Yokota and his accomplices had called up a victim and made false claims concerning their right to enter a nursing home.

A court in Omiya, Japan issued a warrant for Yokota’s arrest on May 31, 2024.

The Japanese government informed the Bureau of Immigration (BI) of Yokota’s presence in the Philippines, leading to his arrest on Jan. 2.

Yokota is being held at the BI detention facility at Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig.

He will be deported and blacklisted.
