MANILA, Philippines — Sen. Bong Go lauded the Department of Health (DOH) for no longer requiring senior citizens to bring their booklets to avail themselves of 20 percent discount when purchasing over-the-counter medications.

Go, who chairs the Senate health and demography committee, said this means one less thing to worry about for the elderly when they buy their medications.

“This is a timely move to ensure that senior citizens get their benefits under the law. Booklets should not be a hindrancåe to their right to health,” Go said.

Under DOH’s new administrative order, senior citizens need to only present valid identification and a doctor’s prescription to claim their discount.

This abolishes previous requirements, such as purchase booklets used to monitor over-the-counter medications, to avail of the benefits under Republic Act 9994 or the Expanded Senior Citizens Act of 2010.

“The important thing here is that it streamlines the process and reduces inconvenience. The law should be for the people. It should not be the people who should adjust to the law,” Go said.
