Garcia, Medina sizzle with dominant shows

MANILA, Philippines — Haylee Garcia of Pasig expectedly blew away the field by sweeping all five gold medals in the FIG junior division of women’s artistic gymnastics of the Batang Pinoy at the Gymnastics Association of the Philippines’ training center in Intramuros, Manila.

Already oozing with potential being a member of the national juniors pool, the 16-year-old Garcia lived up to billing as she dominated, one by one, the individual all-around, balance beam, floor exercise, uneven bars and vault in an outstanding performance.

Over in archery, eagle-eyed Mariano Matteo Medina of Pasig plucked three mints including one each in the first distance and the second distance in the boys 12-year-old recurve event.

In national sport arnis, Lapu Lapu City harvested seven gold in the traditional individual single weapon courtesy of Jayn Paller (cadet girls), Clarence Prado (junior A girls), Erica Hienza Inoc (junior B girls), Kent Carlo Icot (cadet boys), Charlz Danile Gulbe (junior A boys), and Dwayne Manaytay (junior B boys) and non-traditional individual double weapon from Kurt Limbaga (junior B boys).

In wrestling, Mandaluyong dominated with five gold in the Greco-Roman discipline delivered by Aeron de Jesus (Kids 3 53kg), Jhonrell Bacon (U15 41kg), Gregorio Amores (U15 68kg), Zyron Gatuslao (U17 45kg) and Greg Anthony Amores (U17 80kg).
